Process

How it works

Four stages from first consultation to sealed backups and executed will instructions — what we do, what you keep control of, and what it costs.

Before we start

You do not need to prepare anything, and you do not need to understand the technology. Most clients arrive knowing they have a problem and not much more than that. Working out the shape of it is the first stage, not a prerequisite.

  1. Consultation

A confidential conversation, in person in Swift Current or by secure video anywhere in Saskatchewan. We establish what you hold, roughly where it is, who would need to reach it, and what would happen today if you were suddenly unavailable. You leave with a clear picture of your current exposure whether or not you engage us.

  2. Security design

We propose a custody arrangement: how many keys, who holds them, where backups live, and what must occur before funds can move. We work through the realistic failure cases — theft, fire, incapacity, divorce, a keyholder dying first. You approve the design in writing before anything changes.

  3. Implementation

Hardware initialised and verified, wallets configured, backups produced and placed in separate secure facilities. Existing holdings migrate in stages, with test transactions first and verification at each step. Recovery is rehearsed before you rely on it.

  4. Succession documentation

Holdings inventory, access protocol, beneficiary guidance and will instructions — drafted with Anderson & Company and integrated into your existing estate plan. Where appropriate this includes naming a digital executor suited to the technical work.

Afterwards

Custody arrangements go stale. New wallets, new hardware, new holdings, a beneficiary who moves or dies — each quietly widens the gap between your documentation and reality. We offer an annual review to keep the plan matched to what you actually hold. It is optional, and we will say so if you do not need it.

What it costs

Suspected fraud, or vetting an investment — free

If you believe you are being scammed, or you want a company or platform looked at before you commit money, the initial phone consultation is free. Call 306-773-2891.

There is no fee and no obligation. We would far rather take that call early than be asked to help after the funds have gone, at which point there is usually very little anyone can do. If a full written review turns out to be warranted, we tell you what it costs before starting any of it. More on the scam check.

Estate planning and custody work — $500 plus applicable taxes

The first consultation and review is $500 plus applicable taxes. That covers a full review of your current position — what you hold, how it is secured, who could reach it, and what would happen to it today — together with a written estimate for whatever work you decide to do next.

If you proceed, the $500 is credited in full against your final bill. Engage us to draft your will instructions or implement a custody arrangement, and the consultation effectively costs nothing.

Fees beyond that stage depend on the complexity of the arrangement and the number of holdings involved. You receive the estimate before any further work begins, so there are no hourly surprises.

Why one is charged and the other is not

The fraud calls are free because they are about stopping a loss that is about to happen, and a fee at that moment helps nobody. They are usually short, and often the answer is obvious within minutes.

The estate planning review is charged because it is substantive work rather than a sales call — we examine your actual position and put the findings in writing, which you keep whether or not you engage us afterwards. And because the fee is credited if you proceed, it ends up costing nothing to those who do.

What you keep control of

  • You hold your own keys. We do not take custody of your assets.
  • We never hold the unilateral ability to move your funds.
  • You approve the security design, and the estimate, before implementation begins.
  • You are free to stop after the consultation. The review is yours to keep.
